A friend got offered 150 bucks a week in san francisco for graphics design work.
I don’t know if being an artist or at least present yourself as an artist is good for business…the artist that make good money are well known in their field so if you refer yourselft as an artist to your clients, they would think, this is an unknown artist that want to charge me a lot money…I would prefer being a good proffesional with artistic sensibility that charge a lot money because I know what I’m doing and I can express it well.
Artists 99% of the time are not good in business, this is why they have managers!!!

i think that the title “3D Artist” is somewhat overated in our field.
I have to agree here. I avoid handing out my business cards because they say ‘graphic artist’, which is what my empolyer has chosen to title my position. I really don’t feel it represents me well. I would prefer ‘architectural visualization specialist’, or just a plain and simple ‘nerd’ probably explains me best 
I like creative titles, and “Nerd” would be a great one.
finding a good tittle name that really describe you is difficult… I’ve seen many CEOs from one man company, if you own the company I think it’s better put in your business card owner, founder(co-founder) rather than a fancy tittle or on the other hand a tittle expressing something below that you already are..“Clients want to talk to the owner of the circus not with the clown.”
You know… V-Ray is the most popular render engine, so we, as power users, can steer our industry. What do we want to call ourselves? How much are we worth?
We worth as much as the client is willing to pay, they don’t care what software you use anyway. What you charge is proportionally to how much you client respect you, I always try to advice my clients depending what is best for them even saying something like probably don’t need to use my services for this project so They respect me because I’m honest with them.(but I’m not cheap)
Pretty much everything is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Supply and demand, the foundation of economics.
I could see 150 bucks a week doing graphics work on contract perhaps. Being available to take care of something when it is needed and only obligating yourself to X hours per week for that company/individual…maybe 2-3 hours?
About 8 years ago the company I work for had a contract with a traditional architectural illustrator who he basically set up the contract so that he would do X number of projects for the company within the year as a maximum for a set yearly fee. Worked out pretty well for him because for the 3+ years he was under that contract he probably only did 5 projects total. He even required a set amount of time, something like 2 weeks, to work it into his schedule.
