Hi can anyone from chaos tell me what is the best CPU for simulation. We have 4 core i7 6700k and it is slow for simulation. 100 mil cell for fire 1300 frames takes more than a day to simulate. is i9 with more cores better than i7. I know you mention about fast RAM but is core count better than less cores with more speed? thank you
like if i change 6700k to Processor i9-7900X Ten-Core 3.3GHz will it be a lot faster?

More speed per core is better than more cores, and also stay away from NUMA and multi-CPU machines, at least for now.

Sorry for butting in but it’s on topic … Memory speed, I bought 3200mhz memory and annoyingly I cant get the machine to run stable at those speeds yet as it generally overclocks everything using the XMP profile. I assume It would be better to have it running at 3200 for sims.
cbLLC I would say the 10 core would be better as I assume it is an i7/9 so you can easily have it run at 4ghz (I assume the new i9’s are unlocked?)
thanks I just need to know if phoenix uses multi cores in one CPU or only one core to simulate I would assume 4 4 ghz would be slower than 10 3.3 GHz if it does use many cores at once
Yup - 3.04 and latest nightlies use all cores - before there was restriction to at most 64 cores which is now fixed. However, since simulations use a lot of memory and do intensive memory access which takes different time when you have more than one CPU or NUMA node, this may slow the sim down a lot.
