Image mapping

Hi guys,

I’ve been creating a model of the Volk CE28 N “Genesis”, however i have had some issues mapping the graphics that are on the spokes (below)

(this is of the internet btw ;), what i want it to look like )

i have had issues keeping the transparency around the actual image. i have remade the graphics using PS, so i can save them in any format i need to. i have searched all over the internet for tutorials etc on how to do this, but i have still found no relevant explanations. (i need to map 2 different graphics on the same surface, for now i have been splitting the surface into three (the main bit and the two graphic sized bits) and then applying materials (with the images as maps under diffuse) to each)

even when using this method, i can see the white of the background of the images. they have been saved as pngs and there is no background in the actual image.

if anyone could explain how i can acheive this, or give me a link to anything else that does i would greatly appreciate it

Re: Image mapping

hey i think this might help in the diffuse layer tick the box USE COLOR FOR TEXTURE TRANSPARENCY.

maybe u should read up the following link to follow better…

Re: Image mapping

This I’m assuming u are using vray for sketchup version 1.48.89

Dunno if it’d work in rhino… maybe someone else will be able to help better. i’m learning myself yet…

Re: Image mapping

oops, sorry im using vray for rhino and this option isnt there

my bad, thanks for your help though

Re: Image mapping

ive been trying more things but still nothing

anyone else have any ideas?

Have a look here: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=7706
There is a simple tutorial making a material with multiple textures. Hope it helps.

ps. And for the mapping use different planar or cylindrical mapping channels. The mappings are done a bit easier in Rhino 5 (WIP).

Re: Image mapping

thanks for that

i have tryed using the mapping in rhino 5 and it it much easier to get the results i am looking for. However now i had to install the new version of v5, vray is not a rendering option? could somebody please explain how i can make it an option again, ive tried re-installing but nothing has changed?

thanks for your help

EDIT : if i do the mapping in rhino 5, and then bring it back across to v4, will the mapping remain the same? i was also going to use the decal tool as this seems the best for this application, will this be recognized at all in v4?
