OS: Rocky9
Houdini: 19.5.605
V-Ray for Houdini hash:5ae868e from 10 Jun 2023 21:20
V-Ray Core 6.10.09 [82144095] from 5 Jun 2023

Is there any feature in V-Ray for Houdini where a USD file containing V-Ray materials can be imported in to /mat?
This feature is available in Maya: [V-Ray for Maya](https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAYA/USD+Workflow)

Alternatively what’s the best method for writing out V-Ray materials in an external format to reimport and recompose the material network?

There are no plans for importing USD materials in /mat.

If you plan to use USD - use Solaris only.
