instant City ?

Hi,

does anyone of you know a way to make a large, highly detailled “instant city”.

People in my company very often have to present large cityplans, and masterplans. Now they´ve tried to present them with sketchup and noticed, that still many people do not seem to be able to understand, that a box means, that there is a big house…

as always. What i am searching for is a way to replace all the boxes by more complex houses, that i could have as a collection.

also i have heared about a software (experiment ? ) that was able to construct a cityscape based on rules . With windows, textures and so on, but can t remember where i have read about this.

maybe theres a way with particleflow, or scatter ? or a great script , where i can tell by a greyscalle map, to plant big houses, smal houses, and so on, also to be able to rule the orientation of houses towards the streets usw. ? ? ?

any idea ?

Tom

The Paper has been turned into Software

http://www.procedural.com/cityengine.html

it’s for XSI but probably it works with XSI MODTools (free software XSI version without limitations)

http://www.paoloemilioselva.it/citygenerator.html

Export as OBJ and you’ve your procedural city!!

if you test it can you report your impressions??

EDIT: I’ve tested now but ModTools has the 64k polygon limit, so i can’t export my test building…so only with standard XSI you can export it

$8,000 per license.

:(:(:frowning:

Good thing the dollar is so cheap these days then

There’ll be a free 30-day trial, you may have to do all your cityscaping needed for the next couple of years in those days

Well,

i supposed, there would be something like that, and i also thought it wouldnt be for free…

 more complicated than a ivy generator i think…

but my company is big and maybe , lets see what happens

a city build of buildings only ob my company, i think my boss could like this..

lol
