instructions for daylight/sunlight animation

Could anyone share any tips on how to use the VraySky and VraySun to create an interior daylight/sunlight animation. I’ve searched around the forum and managed to cobble together bits and pieces, but I am struggling to find a suitable tutorial.

The camera will be static in a small bedroom, and I want to see how the daylight system affects the lighting in the room from say, 6am to 6pm on midsummers day.

I have done it with a daylight system, since they are easily animatable. Just turn off the sun and daylight, attach a vraysun to the IES sun, and add a vraysky map to the environment slot. Also make sure the “Use Vraysun” box is checked.

Vray sun is available only with vray 1.4718 and later. So its only if you´ve got very good reasons and vlado gives it away.

this also is the reason why you only find few words about it allready..

Yep. I agree. Lots of those Qs though. Especially since there isn’t documentation (not that I know of anyway) I don’t believe there is a “private” area in that regard, is there?

OK, I have linked the Vraysun to the ies light (which I have turned off as with the ‘skylight’), but how do you make sure the multipliers and colours of the vraysun/vraysky are also correctly animated, or is this not how it works?

The vraysun/sky will automatically compute their correct colors based on the sun height above the horizon, so you don’t need to do anything there. If you have other questions, it will be best to email them to me at vlado@chaosgroup.com

but…in real life, isn’t there a difference between the sun/sky color of dusk and sunset?

its all in there :smile:

but i think dusk and dawn are the same, no ? one would prolly have to animate ozone/turbitiy settings over a day to mimic dusk/dawn differences…

think i should look into Petham´s paper again … but WHEN i ask you WHEN :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, lack of documentation is why I haven’t even bothered to experiment with it. I’m just happy that it fixed my DR issues :slight_smile:

Surprisingly enough, there isn’t - given that other atmospheric parameters are the same. Often, though, you get different turbidity/ozone/water etc because of the weather. You’ll have to adjust those manually, since they tend to vary a lot.
