when i do some tests, (tutos ect), it seem i can’t turn on any type of anti aliasing with is not “fixed rate”, witout rendering time becoming 15* longer
not any other options takes as mutch resources, rendering time become too long (24 h and over for a scene rendered in 1h30 on tuto)
simply can’t use QMC on my machine
comes from my computer (atlon 2000, 1 giga ram, soon will be updated

Well (you experts out there plz correct me if i´m wrong!)
Turning on those sampelrs HAS to increase rendertime a lot, as for example with the Adaptive Subdivision sampler it uses between MinRate and MaxRate Subdivs for each pixels. While Fixed ALWAYS uses the subdivs you enter there. So in detailed areas AS or QMC will always be slower as low fixed rate. Try turning your fixed rate to the max Adaptive setting and hit render…that should be even slower
for me if anti aliasing is turned on, this is totally surrealistic rendering time
even if my computer is a bit outdated, i thought i could be able to have the same in 4* more thime then Da_elf or flipside
for me on now comparable withoput anti aliasing, and 24h for that sort of rending scene with QMC or aera anti alias on
i will do some futher tests
if any settings could be posted here, for a anti aliasing on a machine like atlon 2000, 1Gi ram??
QMC or aera , wich is speeder, what should be minimal settings??
i test several, only one result: too long..
dunno if it comes for my computer, but its stable usually never encounter special problems
i still wonder what are the setting for so fast renders on the pics over there, but sounds like only i’m very nood at vray settings, and my machine is almost obsolete
Global subdivision multiplier way too high (16) was a big part of my problem.

Then for glossy subdivs in material I use between 20 and 30
Area lights: 16 to 30
This is very high quality! If you want faster renders (and don’t care about glossies noise), use subdivs around 12 and set qmc sampler noiseth=0.005.
Note that with qmc AA, if you lower glossy subdivs it doesn’t always mean faster rendertimes! For example glossy=6 will be slower than glossy=20! (depending on the scene you’re rendering). But with very low glossy subdivs, there will be lots of noise, and the adaptive qmc tries to smooth that out which is time consuming. With higher glossy subdivs, there is less noise already, and adaptive qmc has less trouble smoothing it out.
Why is your image so blurry from the appartment scene?
dunno exactly, i want to see what i can do with my alton 2000 2giga ram, in minimum render time, to see the power of vray

for example in your tutorial i don’t understand for last image, if you have keeped the “global subdivs multiplier” to 16
personally i’d like to find only 2 setting that are good for my machine, a fast render, maxi 5-10m, for work, and a nice render , maxi 1h30/2h
the fact is for now, i don’t have really the same render time/quality as i can see on the board, i now my computer is not at top of power, but it should only increase render time by 2X, not more

I’m talking about local subdivs here. This is all with global subdivs set to 1.
In the tutorial scene they adjust global subdivs to 16, but all other settings are set accordingly (material subdivs to 8, hsph subdivs to 8 etc…) Global subdivs is a way to multiply all subdivs values at once. I usually use global subdivs to 1 and control subdivs locally in material and lights etc…
I think you need to do some testing for yourself with each parameter at a time. Read the manual over and over again.
I think your image is so blurry because you used wrong settings for your AA filter.
