Issues with High Render Settings

I recently posted this message on finding a the best proven technique for rendering a scene with animated objects in it. To no avail. So i post again with my settings and issues with a plea for help??? I have been rendering accross a network and have tried rendering with an irr map and just on single frame and the flickering results are the same. The animated objects are a mix of animated scale transforms and animated path deforms. All elements have animated visability. I have have incrementally tried turning up the qmc and rqmc subdivisions but this has made very little difference to the problem, and has mostly just increased the render time, which is now at 23(ish) minutes per frame. I have added some screen grabs of my render settings and the problem areas. If you download the two frame png’s and flick between them quickly the problems will soon be obvious.
Please help, i have a deadline for tuesday (06/03/07) and really need this problem fixed as it is making my brain hurt!!

Vlado, i understand you are the man to plea too??

Render settings - Checking your browser...

Frame 71 - Checking your browser...

Frame 72 - Checking your browser...

dude, try and post this also in the off-topic, announcements and vray for maya sections.
Maybe you’ll get a faster answer that way.
Me, i’m baffled.
I DID reply to someone very recently about “the best technique” to render moving objects with a pointer to Vlado’s tutorial.
Wouldn’t know more.

ok thanks, will post in the other forum, yeah i did see your reply but it didn’t really solve the problem, its giving me such a headache!!!
Cheers anyway

Re: Issues with High Render Settings

For this type of animation using the irradiance map would be tricky; it would be best to use QMC GI in this case - seeing as how the scene is not very complicated it will probably not be too slow.

As for animated visibility, unless you really want to do it in the render phase, it is best done as a compositing process. This is because V-Ray emulates visibility as material transparency, which means for example, that you will see the inside of semi-visible objects. In many cases, this is not quite the desired result.

Also, if you have an urgent issue with V-Ray it would be best to email either vray@chaosgroup.com or me directly at vlado@chaosgroup.com; if you can send me a part of your scene, I can probably also suggest some suitable settings.

Best regards,
Vlado

And don’t cross post.. same message in 4 forums will just clutter up the forum.

The Definitive Answer!!!

Right guys, firstly sorry for cross posting, i was getting in a bit of a panic with the deadline looming!! Thanks for the reply and i will bear the direct email in mind for future reference.
Now after endless tests i have found the answer… It was a network rendering issue. With add to incremental irradiance map done on every frame on a single machine and then the frames rendered across 30 machines, the differences in rendered images were coming from the different machines not any of the render settings!! The differences were so small to look at them frame by frame you probably wouldnt notice, but play back was flicker city!! The wierd thing is all of our render machines are exactly the same spec!!
But thanks again guys and i hope this helps someone else with a flickering headache

DO NOT USE IRRMAP when rendering a scene where anything besides the camera is animated. It will just lead to problems.

I second what Dynedain said. I just had to render an animation that was lit using GI and had moving objects and just stuck to qmc for the whole thing. the only thing I had to contend with was the amount of noise in the renders. zero flicker.
