Komorebi- A short film about a Japanese textile dyer's house

The narrative follows the path of white silk through the meditative process of painting and dyeing, until it reaches its final form: an intricate kimono that evokes the soul of nature and its origins. My goal was to tell a story through quiet, atmospheric moments with my own music rather than a conventional walkthrough. The film explores the symbiosis of traditional architecture and craftsmanship with modern materials, aiming to capture the essence of “Komorebi” – sunlight filtering through the trees.

Technical note: Every shot is a rendered 3D still image animated with AI.

So it’s only stills that were rendered? All animation is from AI? Impressive..

Yes. Still images were rendered. Textiles animated by marvelous designer, paint bleed simulated by phoenix fd. And then from the rendered still, AI made the camera movements, wind, moving parts, etc.

Why were the textiles still animated in Marvelous then? Does the AI pick-up the generated movement better if the starting position already looks dynamic?

Exactly, and also I wanted to have the still images aswell to be useable on their own, and I wanted to control the wind intensity, the movement dynamics -strong wind or slight wind. In this way I had huge control on the outcome and exactly that happened what I wanted, did not rely on the full randomity of AI.

I am such an idiot lol! For moment I absolutely forgot the existence of that.. :- D

I don’t do any AI at all right now but perhaps I should look into generating few cinematics as well, this looks already way too ridiculous.
