I want to build 4 new workstations with 4 gpu’ s (1080ti) in them. They would be rack mounted and kept in a server room that is nice and cool and more importantly away from the office where everyone is working… so no heat or noise.
But in order for my idea to work, the keyboard, mouse and 2 or 3 monitors would need to be connected to each workstation by some sort of KVM switch…
Anyone had any experience with this sort of setup? Or would I be better off just building the workstations in normal (big arse) cases?
Any ideas/thoughts or help would be much appreciated!
You need to look into “pc over ip”, or teradici device. Its essentially allowing you to establish a fast connection to a machine on a local or remote network. For each workstation / machine you can have one device. At some studios I worked at they had 2-3 devices on their desk, switching between them via kvm.
There are some limitations with it though, some don’t like dual monitor setup, others don’t work with tablets (sensitivity)…
Thanks Dmitry… looking into it now. Do you know if there is any performance issues with pc over ip? Does it feel like you are connected to your workstation normally or is there a bit of a lag? Any latency when using max etc would be pretty much a deal breaker.
