Latest interior!

This is the latest apartment interior I’ve done, I’m ok with the result but the time was ay to long, 42 hours with a dual xeon 2.4 1gb ram.

If anybody has any pointers to redouce time I’d appriciate it.

42 hours with a dual xeon 2.4¡¡¡
Well, some advices:
Try to use photons, it reduce time very much
And of course, your glossy subdivision dont have to be higher than 5-8
Only with this ultimate the time will reduce very very much because I think you have your glossy subdivision at 50,what is default value

nice render pozas !
the exterior are so cloudy…i like it

good job congratulation !!!

…y las chelas???
jajajajaja

mmm is a lot of time…
what is the real size of the render???

the displacement is great

AA, 1-2, its just too much, especially if you’re using adaptive and have a lot of glossies. use -1 2 or -1 3. also check your lights for how many subdivisons they have, as well as your glossy materials.

thanks for the comments, I’m using low glossy subdivisions, the aa is high but I didn’t know it would take that long, the sizze is 2048 x 1333.

Do you guys know if using area shadows increases to much the render time?

bpo dude, i really like ur work, u have a distinctive style.
my 2 cents which most already know…
- qmc sampler settings, most crucial quality/time settings.
- system > face coeff…make it 1 or 0.8.
- if file size is big, go to the bottom pink box in max and type “gc()”. press enter. save file.(im missin coupla steps. dont rem :? )

probably its just AA, -1 2 will take care of ething as dusan mentioned.

also try this and see if it works for you…
i leave the clr/nrm threshold values at default 0.4,0.5 to save time, this gives me a blurry render i know…but nothing beats a photoshop sharpen more filter… might get some artefacts but those can be smoothened off easily.
also u neednt go for the catmull rom pixel filter…that might up render times too
cheers

Well

if you use glossys and also softshadows, the antialiasing algorithm you use is defniteley wrong.

adaptive subd. is ment for very clean scenes, only hard shadows or shadowmappiing, now displacement, and also no glossy reflections.

if your scene is that way, this algorith by far is the fastest.

it analyses the edges of your objects and this way has to render much less in the areas where nothing happens. This is the analythical method.

glossys, softshadows and also displacement are pixelbased things. wherever you have such pixelbased effects, the analythical method of the adaptive subdivision algorithm try´s to analyse on every pixel because he dont know if it is an edge or not. (an edge could be reflected !), and so he analyses itself to death .

the method of choise now should be simple two level, that uses a way of undersampling for the antialiasing. this can save you half or a third of your rendertime depending of how many glossys, softshadows and displacement. We had a big scene with many many details, and softshadows, and after switching to simple twoo level, we came from 22 minutes to 8 minutes.

fixed rate, well is good for example when you use 1.457, and use the new vray framebuffer. when you use interactive exposuercontrol whith real rgb, simple two level wouldnt have set enough antialiasing samples in very bright areas. (this algorithm also takes this into account ), and when you turn down brightness, you soon would notice that while details get into those bright areas (as in hdri), there had been not enough antialiasing samples. in this only case and the case of excessive details, softshadows and also displacement, fixed rate could make sense and also get the fastest.

hope this helps a bit.

Tom

Äh…

also for speed,

try to lower your glossy settings about 8 to 6 ?

switch on in your materials, no mor refl as 2 maybe only one for glossys, this can save much much time.

lower your shadow samples if you can. sometimes 8 allready is enough

at last !!! use the 1.457 ! interiors can be much faster with photonmapping for the calculation of secoundary bounces. but !
lightmapping is the method of choise. it can use all ! sorts of light, backroundimmages, and used for secoundary bounces can speed up your renderings up to 3 times ! thas the real boost. :!:

Hi you guys could you please try to do this in english ? i dont understand you.

maybe if you dont, jus do it as a privat message ? :?

if not i only will talk to you in German !

Yes Tom is right … Please keep it in a Language we all understand …

Tom,

thanks for the reply, the tips are working great.

Well .. the good thing about forums is that you can read other people’s problems in order to learn…
so even if you do both speak spanish, i do think it is better to leave all these forums in English .. that way it can be used like a huge knowlage base for everyone, instead of a “private problem resolver” ..

as for the time savers .. did you used displacement for the rug ? what kind if you did ?

I like your work and it is nice render

but I am confused about lighting. outside (background) looks like evening time and halogen lights are on, but there is sunlight too. am I mistaken? or your glass is colored or reflectory glass?

yep that’s my only comment on this as well…there seems to be inconsitency on the lighting from the putside versus the pic in the background which is too dark…

paul.

Excellent work!! the background is Mexico city??

How do you model the carpets? i think they have vray fur or something rigth? but how is the base model??

And most important!! Excellent Avatar!!! Arrozzzz!!!

Do you use msn? mine brunolojero@hotmail.com
