Hello guys, (boys and girls, no offense !
)
here is our lastet work for Parmigiani Fleurier (luxury watch brand)
Vray 3.2 and Nuke 8
Hope you enjoy ![]()
Best regards…
Love it, love it , love it !!! Any chance you used Lightmap software or you only used vray lights?
Nice, thanks for sharing.
Very nice job !! congrats !
Some great ideas in there. I really like the modelling/rendering detail in the pencil.
Do you model these sorts of things at, for example 10x the size or 1:1?
Great job! Especially like the pencil at the beginning. Some of the fluid work looks a little glitchy, which is a shame given how large they are in the frame, but lovely overall.
I… I can’t work out if you’re joking?
We don’t use Lightmap, this is only vray light (and sometime some HDRI). We always use VRay RT for the lighting job.
Thanks !!!
Thanks !!!
Size 1:1 always.
Best regards.
Impressed! Top!
No, I’m not joking. With something like this that is so detailed and presumably based on real measurements, we would model it in CAD. However, the translation of tiny things from CAD into MAX always gives errors. For example, we recently modelled a turbine engine that had lots of little details that were better (and more accurately) modelled in CAD. When that came through into MAX, some of the curves had been over-optimised and some vertices had been welded incorrectly(even with significant adjustments to the import settings).
The solution was to model it at 10x the size in CAD.
WOW! great work! Love the video!
Really!? I mean, I’ve modelled things to scale but scale is so arbitrary in CG that the idea that would set out to model something 10x it’s intended size is madness to me. I mean, you can just bring it into max at whatever scale you want, surely?
It could be your system units that are too large. For example if your max system units is meter (even if display units is mm), small things imported from CAD will go wonky. Even if you try model very small things in max with system units of m, it will go wonky.
Try setting your system units to mm, then import the original small CAD file. Then save, then merge that file into your usual meter file. Somehow that works fine
(Import, not file link)
In max, our system scale is always meters. We used to use mm (as that’s the way architects think in general, so it makes sense!) but it gave accuracy issues with large scenes
It certainly should be the case, but quite often it isn’t. IIRC isn’t Max ‘designed’ system units being cm? (and who uses cm apart from my mum?!)
I know that the scene units can introduce problems in terms of the rounding errors that occur as you move further away from 0,0,0 but since you can stipulate how many max units are equal to the units you want to use, the units themselves are somewhat arbitrary I thought?
Anyway, we’re derailing the thread a bit! I just find the idea of modelling something ‘larger’ crazy, because you can scale anything to any units or size you want.
Woaw, that’s all ![]()
Love it!
