As much as all freelancer here, I am disappointing by the complete lack of vrayscan update. Some material heavily used in industry like brushed metal, requested since several months are missing and using a vraybumpmat to add a brushed look terribly fake.
Can you please provide us with release date. Thanks
@fraggle +1
We didn’t announce a thing, strangely enough, but did you guys notice the over 200 materials from Japanese clients?
There are some of the most amazing cloths in there.
as for “brushed metal”: it’s a category of finishes, *times* a category of materials.
In other words, the number of possible permutations between the type of brushing and the material to be brushed is night infinite.
Did you guys put in a specific request?
You mean the cloths scans we got 11 months ago?
Was anything added since then?
They are really nice, but I hoped More scans are getting added regularly. No need to scan every possible brushed metal.. But right now there is like 4 or 5 scans only
Wow, they were up 11 months ago? I realised two weeks past, go figure.
Metals: there’s an aluminium, a gold and 2 steel ones. With colorisation you ought to be able to cover most brushed metals, provided the brushing pattern is fine.
Which is why i asked if you put in a request: if the pattern ain’t fine, then there’s not going to be any coloring saving you. ![]()
As i know a new update is currently being prepared, just to introduce some clarification - the library contains mostly materials of customers who allowed to use their materials. Surprisingly for me, the fabrics are big part of the payed scans, but i understand that the library users and the scan service users have apparently different interests, so we will try to add some general purpose materials bying samples from the stores around
I offered to send samples multiple times now, no one ever reacted. I wrote mails to Gary two times in the last two weeks, I didn’t even get a reply. I feel since Dinko is gone, no one feels responsible for VrScans anymore. Which is a shame!
The last big update was in January or February. Other libraries like Quixel MegaScans for example manage to update the library once a week.
Thanks Lele and Ivaylo
New fabrics are always welcome. Looking forward to the update you mentioned.
Maybe every 6-8 months or so if we get like 200 new scans, it would be very nice. More fabrics, leather and wood would be nice. And maybe metals and plastic
I hoped that this year VRscans library has around 1k scans or so..
An expanding library as advertised when VRscans launched last year will bring more and more users.
Could anybody from Chaosgroup staff please tell me who is in charge of the VrScans now? It can not be Dinko, because he is gone. And Gavril doesn’t anser my mails. Who is handling this?
Hi Oliver, i will ask Gary about your mails, normaly he is the one who is in contact with the customers, it’s quite possible that your mails were not seen (anti spam filters or something like that)
Ivaylo, dankeschön.
I am searching for specific plastic.
Specifically this black one:
It is really hard to go through all the black plastics and finding the right pattern to see if it was scanned. Takes up so much time. After downloading and putting stuff to my library, the preview images are so small that I dont know which was which anymore, somtimes.
We need QUICKLY a new interface, please!
nice! thanks! is there a way to make the preview window bigger?
of course, but not now, this tool is built with the old build system that is already not supported and i can’t modify it immediately to use the new one, so perhaps when we finish the most prioritet tasks
for now you can use the zoom, it’s not the same as big window but is enough to recognize the similar materials
It has been very quiet…
It was in December when I spoke to Gavril about the library not getting enough updates, the GUI of the download page and much more.
We got a lot of fabric scans, which is nice.
To be honest, most of them I cant use on things like a sofa. The scans are too small and visibly tile.
Not a lot of updates other than that.
Even though there is such a huge potential…
Would love to get some materials like marble…and I think it is already a year or more when we were talking about different holograms, and you said you would try to get a sample from a local store.
what is in the works or plans?
Big part of the library was scanned before the service official start, when we still were in R&D phase. As already mentioned, currently we have a lot of payed orders and we have no free resources, that is not an acceptable excuse, but hopefully it’s just for the moment. Currently our efforts are directed mostly to build a line for device production, that actually was and still is our main goal. This will improve the entire situation significantly - the big customers preffer to have their oun devices instead to send samples to us (in a big corporation this is a big problem), the flow of payed orders will decrease, on the other hand we will be not limited by the available devices, and the last, and may be the most important - we will be able to focus to the library.
Update - i just spoke with the guy operating the device, and we discussed this question. I think we can find some time slots for regular small updates to the library with materials that are not branded (like brushed metals, marble, some stones, etc)
great update recently! one can really see how everything is changing after asking so many times!
ps: sorry for being sarcastic (usually not my style) but it is a little tiring asking again and again and being promised updates and they are just not happening.
Not a problem at all, fortunatelly we are still not fragile in our part of the world ![]()
Well, to define my words as “promisses” is not too accurate, as i already said, currently we are focused to the putting the devices in production, and this takes all our efforts. Let us finish this part (we are near to the end) and then can give real promisses.
Haha, great to hear you’re taking it humourously.
anyway, sure, you said you think you can find time.
And these plans are plans, not promises:
But I take your statements seriously, and not just something that is said lightly.
What’s the ETA for finishing the devices?
