I am unable to manipulate a VrayScene over time in Vantage. Can this be true?
I have tried linking the VrayScene to a moving object, adding keyframes and tried different controller-types.
Even though it is moving fine in 3dsmax, i am unable to recreate any movement in vantage - either by exporting it to an animated Vantage file, or by using live-link (either with or without object-state enabled).
Some stuff is just to complex duo to multi-subs being to large etc. to hold in a VrayProxy - the VrayScene is perfect for this and easy to update. But is it really un-animatable?
Yes, this is not supported. Vantage will use the animation for the objects inside the vrscene (including in live link), but not the animation of the VRayScene node’s transform itself.

either by exporting it to an animated Vantage (you mean vrscene?) file, or by using live-link (either with or without object-state enabled).
Which one do you need more - animated vrscene or animation using live link ?

I am very much a fan of live link in general, as this gives me the opportunity to use more complex effects such as Tyflow which cannot be exported (generally speaking) to a vrscene.
However for this particular case, i need to use the Water Surface (brilliant substitute for Phoenix Ocean btw!) however this Water Surface cannot be defined within 3dsmax, therefore i cannot use the Live Link for my project.
So i need the most, to be able to have lets say the .vrscene respect the translation parent in a hierarchy (ie: Linked to a moving dummy), exported to an animated vrscene.
Just to be clear: I insert a .vrscene in my .max file, link it to a dummy. Then i export the whole scene to a .vrscene (including animation).
This opens in Vantage - and i need the nested .vrscene to still be moving - super cool with objects inside it moving as well, sure) - then i add my water surface and render config.
This might turn into a complex change to the existing animation system, so I am not sure when we will be able to implement it.
As for the live link case, it’s something that needs to be fixed in V-Ray for 3dsMax.

Thanks for looking into it.
Looks like i can get by, by using Xref object records instead of .vrayscene and get it working.
