Re: Link please

Its in the tools section of the downloads page. I think it may only be available to customers.

Re: Link please

I can 't find the tool section in the download area, all I have there are ''my files ‘’

Re: Link please

I found a work around with just using bitmap, it works great and cuts the rendering time by 60%
Cheers

Re: Link please

The tools section is here.

Re: Link please

great but it is empty, and the only way to access it is by clicking on your link.

If I go directly to download it is not listed

Re: Link please

Same here…

Re: Link please

Click on Downloads there is a submenu called My Files. Do you see the additional files there?

Re: Link please

This is only slightly off topic, but I was snooping on CG forums today and found a interesting post for a Graphic Interface for the VRimg2Exr converter. I have not tried it, so I can’t give it my endorsement, but if you find the command line interface a bit cumbersome (I do a bit) then maybe this will do it for you. This is not a replacement for the VRimg2Exr converter as it relies on the original executable to work. Read through the ReadMe file, and proceed at your own risk  Of course you will have to register for the CG forums in order to view this.

Re: Link please

Thank you Damien.

I ask me, why nobody of the developing team integrate some commands at the RMB menu of the Windows file explorer. Simple to integrate and simple to use.

Joe, could you add this commands per VfR installer? I know from Rhinoman|AIR, that this can be done per installer.

Re: Link please

I see my files and 2 sub-directory 1 for Rhino with 2 downloads in vr3 and vr4

no tools section

Check the bottom of the page. He did release another version of it, so I think that post with the updated link is down. I downloaded it yesterday, so its definitely there.

Re: Link please

i feel a bit stupid for asking, but what does this tool do? What is an EXR image and what is it good for?

Re: Link please

Well there are 2 things here; the VRimg and the EXR. The VRimg is an format which does several things. First and most importantly it writes the file as each bucket finishes calculating, and what this does is help manage memory usage when rendering large resolution files. Second thing is that it retains every piece of information that is calculated by vray, so that means that is has all of the accurate color info and all of the render channels. Because of all this the VRimg format is not for everyday use, but for large resolution renderings that will use allot of memory it is very useful.

An exr is simply a image format that has the ability to retain 32bit/channel images. This means that it will have the colors if float values. Exrs are one of the better high dynamic range file formats as they are widely supported and not as large as hdrs.

The converter is simply an application that will convert the info in the vrimg file to exrs, but you can simply convert rgbA or other channels. There is no application that can natively read Vrimgs and no plugins that will allow for an application to read them. Hence the need to convert.
