Livelink stopped working

Hi Vantage Team

I noticed users having similar problems in the forum, but I have not seen any clear solutions so far.

I’ve been enjoying using the Vantage live link for a while, but recently it stopped working. I use Max 2022.2 with VRay 5.10.03 and Vantage 1.4.2

I am not aware of any changes made in any program or system settings which might have caused the ive links to stop working.

When I attempt to initiate the live link from Max, Vantage does open but the link immediately breaks so it just stays on the default Vantage scene with the tree. Meanwhile in Max the VRay frame buffer (which normally stayed in an interactive rendering state when the live link used to work before) immediately stops the interactive render and the VRay message window displays the error attached here.

It is still possible to use the “Export and send the current scene as static vrscene to Chaos Vantage” button and use Vantage that way.. but of course having the live link is way more practical to use.

Any help solving this issue will be greatly appreciated

Hi Jason,

You can still use the “Export and send the current scene as static vrscene to Chaos Vantage” button, that shouldn’t be affected by the live link issue. However it is strange that it just stopped working. On what port is Vantage set to listen for connection? By default its 20701, you can check it in the Live link menu in Vantage:

Alexander

Hi Alexander

Can confirm that Vantage port is set to 20701.

Have tested to make sure I can still export and send scene and that works fine, but I have gotten used to the live link too much

Can something might have happened to be blocking that port or IP? A Windows update or such?

Maybe, but unfortunately I do not know how to make sure or check whether the port is blocked

Can you try with the GPU IPR method described here if that will work?

I just tried the GPU IPR method, but still having same issue with same error messages.

After you set the new server and resolved it, you pressed the render button in the VFB and that didn’t work too? Do you by any chance have more than 1 LAN card?

The errors sounds like Vantage is not listed as a DR server, i.e. there are no servers in the list. This could happen if the part of the launch script that sets up DR has malfunctioned. Are there errors in the maxscript listener window?

The DR settings in Max should be something like this:

Edit: never mind, forum didn’t tell me there are new posts

We have some success! Thanks so much

So after following the steps in the GPU IPR method, it wasn’t clear to me that after making the changes I am meant to simply hit the render button in the VFB (I think the wording is a little ambiguous near the end: “Once a Live Link session is started the scene is transferred to Chaos Vantage, a thick blue contour line appears around the viewport”…)
Instead I hit the Live Link button in Max which gave me the same issues as before.

But after your last message I followed the GPU IPR method steps again but this time I hit the Interactive Rendering button in the VFB - as soon as I did so the scene started rendering in Vantage (which was already open).

Thanks so much
So the link’s not working exactly the way it is was meant to… but I’m glad you found this workaround.
All the best

Glad to hear that it worked. I have added the missing info in the docs.

Best regards,
Alexander

Hello, We have installed Vantage 1.5.3 with Latest Vray 52001, we also installed latest NVidia drivers 497.09, we also tried all of the above mentioned. We have 2 GPUs, Slot 1 has 1080ti for display only, 2nd GPU is RTX3090 for Vantage.

Still Link-link is not working.
Any help ?

This is the error we are getting. image attached.

On one of the other machines, we are able to do live link, and DR server is resolving to 127.0.0.1 in IP address column istead of ???

Hi vishwanath_mani,

Does the machine this issue is occurring has 2 LAN cards?

Best regards,
Alexander

No, only 1 Lan card. our network is also working fine.

Vantage status says waiting for live link on port 20701
