MASK WITH GRADIANT

Hi everyone

I’m trying to create a mask for an object whose material has a gradient in its opacity.
The beauty pass looks fine in the render, as does the alpha channel,
but the ID mask ‘clips’ the gradient, which isn’t satisfactory.
How can I create a mask that preserves the gradient?

Since you are already getting the correct result in alpha, why don’t you use that? Even with masks, you would eventually need alpha only.

CMasking_ID, CMasking_Mask, and CMasking_WireColor are flat-color passes to identify which object or material is at that pixel, they don’t sample the material opacity, so what you are getting is expected result.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and suggest a solution.
In my project, these dots are stuck onto a glass façade (behind which there are also other objects),
so I can’t extract or use the alpha channel as a mask (in Photoshop to adjust the colour of these dots using a gradient).

Can you share your scene maybe via a ticket and let us know what you want to achieve, maybe we can find a workaround solution.
