One of our workstations appears to have a problem where by the material editor does not render the preview window, it leaves it black and when you switch renderer to scanline or mental ray it begins to work.
Has anyone enncountered this problem and is there a work around?
System specs…
max 9 in both 32 and 64bit and the latest VRay1.5 final release both 32 and 64, with the dongle on vista ultimate 64bit with an 8800gtx.
No of course. In 3ds Max, where you assign V-Ray as the current renderer, there are, in fact, three renderers that you can assign - a Production renderer, a Material Editor renderer, and an ActiveShade renderer. Normally, the Material Editor renderer is locked to the Production one, but they could be unlocked by mistake.
If you are able to do a normal rendering, then the material editor should be working as well. If you get a “Cannot obtain license” error when you try to render a full image, then the license has not been set up correctly (e.g. the license server was not found, it was not running, the dongle was not plugged in or the dongle drivers have not been installed).
the simplist way to tell if the lisence is working is to open the vray render pannel. if its not working then no settings will show up. sometimes when i take my dongle to school with me when im teaching i sometimes forget to plug it back in.
Nope non of those problems, just completed a render at 5000 x 3350. Have been using both the 32 and 64 bit versions with no problems at all, bar the materialthingymacwhatsits.
There have been some reports of this happening; we’ve tried to make the license more robust and less error-prone, which should hopefully help to make things more stable.
Same problems. My material editor hangs for half-minutes on end and then renders black, always because It loses my dongle. If I wait a few minutes, it usually comes back…only surefire solution so far.
