Material Preview in Asset Editor - V-Ray v3.00.04 - PC

So im not sure if this is linked to the previous but report by Roju https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/…-material-name

Heres the scenario (As the image below shows)

1. Create a new Surface
2. Create a new generic material in the Vray Editor
3. Go to the diffuse and set the texture to “Mesh.png”
4. Material preview doesnt update (Remains dark grey even though its a seethrough mesh)
5. Apply material with paint bucket tool - material appears fine in viewport (I think thats what its called)
6. Whilst it renders it is the same as the preview in the asset editor. Materials2.gif

Second Scenario

1. Create a new Surface
2. Go into surface and select the Face
3. Drag mesh.png file from the desktop onto the surface whilst holding ALT.
4. Asset editor makes a material for it that appears and renders correctly.
5 No noticeable difference between the material settings. Materials3.gif

I have uploaded both models and the material below to anyone else that would like to have a go and try explain whats going on

Thank you for posting this!
I’ve managed to reproduce the problem (slightly different than the previous issue), we’ll look into it.

Kind regards,
Peter

For anyone reading this and having the same problem.

if you import a transparent image into SU, vray automatically creates a map in the opacity field which you cannot edit.
if you manually assign a transparent image in the diffuse field, this doesn’t happen and the material remains opaque. There is no way to fix it other than by importing that image instead of assigning.
In vray 2.0 this was sort of easier. there was a checkbox ‘use material transparency’
@Peter.Chaushev is there a fix for this erroneous behaviour?

This is already resolved in our internal builds. The fix will be included in v3.6 as part of a series of improvements to Opacity controls.

Kind regards,
Peter
