Is there anyway that you can have Vray materials setup in a component, stay with it, so that when you import the materials are already setup? This would helpful for plants, cars, and furniture that may have several complex materials.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Version 1.48 and newer does that.
The old 1.05.30 and older didn’t.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
I am using the absolute latest version and it does not work. Materials lose all of their settings when I import a SKP file. Same goes for Copy and Pasting. Is there something I need to tell Vray so it doesnt do this?
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Can you post back the exact version you’re using?
Re: Materials Staying w Components
1.49.01
Re: Materials Staying w Components
I’m using the newest version 1.49.01 and it seems to be broken for me as well. I used to be able to copy and paste and save components and the materials would follow. It’s not doing that now. I’m pretty sure it worked in version 1.48.89 and older 1.48 versions.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
hmm.. I was working for sure! I had begun to set up premade components…
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Just tried witha test scene:
one material with a TexChecker for diffuse map
one material with a reflection layer
one material with an emmisive layer
When copied the geometry with those materials over to a new SU window I lost lots of material info.
TexChecker was gone
Reflection layer was gone
Only thing that remained was the emissive layer.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Aargh!! Will this be fixed soon?
I have a complex model I am working on and not being able to keep materials with components is really a drag. I am solving the issue by saving my vismats separately, but would really like this fixed. Anybody come up with other workarounds for the time being?

Re: Materials Staying w Components
currently at the top of my list for fixes in SU.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
good thing that it will be fixed, because imho, it was the BEST change in VRAY after 1.05. Just setting previously all my components and importing them is awesome… not counting the fact I can open two Sketchup Windows, open an old scene in one with cool materials and stuff already setup, then just copy and paste from one window to the other.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
+1 on this one, very important. Argh, it’s added loads of extra hours of work!
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Now that I’ve been working around this limitation, I find that sometimes materials do stay with components. I haven’t noticed a pattern yet, but if I drag and drop a component from my file folder into the sketchup window, I was able to have all the layers come in correctly. I have not had any luck if I load a component through import or the component dialogue. And the fist method doesn’t always work.
Just wanted to report that the vray material layers do actually stay *sometimes*
Re: Materials Staying w Components
Any updates on this issue?
Re: Materials Staying w Components
should be fixed in the next beta build.
Re: Materials Staying w Components
ahhh, the next beta build! Eagerly awaiting!! ;D ;D
