Matte Problems with Dome Light

I’m having a few issues when trying to use the new dome light in conjunction with a matte plane.

I put a plane in my scene, and lit it to the desired level with an hdr using the dome light, but when I then changed it to a matte object, it became way too bright. e.g…

Plane set as matte:

All I did in the third image was select ‘Matte object’ and ‘Shadows’ in the object’s properties, and it became unusable. It also took a ridiculous amount of time to render. Is there a way round this? Am I doing something wrong, or just missing something obvious?

Cheers,

John

Are you using colour mapping? I remember I had a problem with this a while back - That’s definitely something that should be changed although I think there’s a per object colour mapping option now.

No. Colour Mapping’s set to Linear Multiply.
Dark: 1, Bright: 1, Gamma: 1
All 3 boxes unchecked.

If you wish, you can try to send a portion of the scene to me at vlado@chaosgroup.com; I just did a quick test here which seemed to work fine.

had the exact same problem. seems to be oly present for me if i have checked “store with irr map”

Thanks Vlado. I’ll send it to you when I’m back at work on Monday.

Instinct: I haven’t got ‘Store with Irr Map’ checked, so I guess it’s caused by something else.

John

So there was indeed a problem with the dome light that should be resolved for the next RC release.
