Just got our Subscription 2 days ago. Warning though, it messes up backburner unless you install it on all your nodes. You can still submit jobs, but Queue manager fouls up…
Mental Ray is slow at GI…
Is it really that slow? On the image uploads forum, there is a thread showing a sample scene for trying out MR and it’s performance in time isn’t that bad IMO, although the result seems a little bit strange.
Now that Max proposes Scanline, Light Tracer, Radiosity and Mental Ray, don’t you think that such a choice will retain many customers from looking further for an even better third party renderer?
Ok, let’s forget Light Tracer. The radiosity system doesn’t seem to have been approved either and it is too slow, Scanline is old fashioned, but MR is still on the run, isn’t it? So now Max seems to be able to satisfy even more customers.
Sure, as MR is shipping with XSI, Maya and now Max, the developpement team will need some extra time for each integration, loosing time for the core developpement … but who knows, maybe do they have some Vlados and Peters in their crew?! :?

I just got back from a Max 6 demo… I’m ready to sell my car to buy it. It was amazing! :shock:
I’ve seen mention of complaints of slow renders… I witnessed an HDRI render that took 14 seconds on a single processor laptop.
Particle Flow, Ragdoll and Mental Ray were awesome!
