so this is the old “wait till service pack 1 before installing” drama?
well none of those look deal breaking to me. We are currently working on a project so massive that its hitting the memory wall before even throwing in lights. And it needs to be a dusk/nightime sexy looking scene. I need 64bit now dammit! lol
As with any new release, you should throughly evaluate it to be sure your immediate needs are met before diving in headlong. But I know that when the loudest people talking about R8 where shouting to wiat, I didn’t and had no major problems with what I needed it for. And to be honest, ‘slower in 64 bit than 32 bit’ sure doesn’t sound like a major problem to me. But I am sure there are many yet to be found issues.
I hope I get mine, I got one email telling me I should renew my subscription and another saying they were shipping it… :o
They got some troubles with x64. Sadly. But, think it won’t made Dreamscape blame 'em for this…
Been using the demo today…I am pretty impressed with the new MentalRay. I cant wate to get the 64 bit version and Vray 64 bit. ![]()
the 64bit version is slower in some parts then the 32bit version ? what the…
Guess i’ll wait till SP1 and VRay 64…
From what I understand you’re not going to get a speed-performance increase with 64-bit software, just the amount of available memory. Which may increase performance in some areas (since you won’t have to swap-disk everything), but there’s also the overhead of addressing 64 bits of memory.
I havn’t tested it yet but will plugins for Max 8 work in 9?
-dave
afaik they dont. btw, there is finally a vray version for max9
- and guess what, it works
dapeter: look what natty posted:
Animation
• During animation playback, caching the scene may delay the playback by a few seconds.
• The Maxine.max scene file may display a slower performance on 3ds Max 9 64-bit than in the 32-bit version of the program.mental ray
• Some mental ray effects may be slower when compared to 3ds Max 8.Radiosity
• Radiosity may be slower in 3ds Max 9 64-bit than in the 32-bit version.
i just hope the viewport performance is as good as in the videos on the autodesk site…
AND…unlike seabass, it’s a free upgrade ![]()
Have any UK max-9 subscribers got their upgrade yet?
Have any UK max-9 subscribers got their upgrade yet?
Not arrived here yet.

So whats everyones thoughts? to be honest i am a little disapointed, i guess the expectation is higher than the final product.
i love it…the performance increasement was my top priority and they got it way beyond my expectations…also file loading and saving of big files has gotten faster wich was my 2 priority…so i am actually a happy camper ![]()

Yup, got mine in the post yesterday - nice dvd cover, looks like a car brochure.
Came home to Max 9 on my doorstep today ![]()

shame i didnt get to your doorstep 1st. thats an awkward place to find vray. kinda like finding a baby in a basket on your doorstep huh hehe. i personally would have left it in a mailbox but then again the box was probably to big to fit in there
Heh, the stork left Max 8 there the same way a while back.
Btw, where do they get their sample images from? Obviously not the V-Ray forum! :o
Ok, there’s a few nice renders in there, but some of them, wow…
