I was just watching some of the interesting video tuts by Evermotion and while watching the one about the different possible VRay camera settings I was wondering if overriding the Max camera with a standard VRay camera and standard 45 degrees FOV still yields a more realistic rendering of the standard FOV than when using a Max camera. After all, why would there be a standard camera included in VRay when you can use the Max camera for that? Or does the VRay cam maybe render faster or so?

Realistic?, you mean lens distortion?
When I do photomontage the image gets distorted near the edges, because the photocamera lens used isn’t 100% accurate, even if it’s a Hasselblad. And the 3dsmax cam is 100% at the edges.

Yeah, I never use the vray camera, but then again I have pretty standard camera work..
I can’t tell you wich one is better.. I only gave a explanation of my daily use of the 3dsmax cam. The point with the 3dsmax is that the camera is 100% accurate, and real life camera’s aren’t.. so the image I use as a base for the photomontage isn’t 100% accurate.
Maybe in the future this is featured in the vray camera’s, but I guess it is complicated to implement.
I was wondering about this as well. I would just like to know whether or not it can more or less simulate a real life camera. Like say for instance you type in 50mm in the max interface and then you copy the FOV value into the Vray camera…will you get a real life 50mm lens when you render?
