I had this problem with max2016 too. It was like nightmare, on every other launch max would load with default settings. I don’t recall if i find some definite solution, i think this behaviour gradually became less and less frequent with time and now it happens very rarely. One thing i noticed that max2016 especially prone to reseting settings when there’s multple instances launched simultaneously. Now i try to use one max instance at the time as much as possible, maybe that is why it started to behave acceptably? :]
if you are under W7,W8 or W10 You can try:
-
Setup your max Environment as you need it and save a Scene in the standard Scene Dir, name it maxstart.max
-
Setup the rights from the used directorys correct that max can fully write here
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\YOURMAXVERSION\ENU
- Uninstall Max and Reinstall Max with Adminrights
The Last Tip (3) has worked for me
good luck
The ENU folder should already have write privileges due to being a user profile path, but what’s more important is to set write privileges for the max install path (c:/Programs/Autodesk/Max20xx). I had the same problem with Max 2017 because it didn’t write settings to the ENU folder and chose to use the install folder instead for some reason.
Thank you very much for all your suggestions!! will try them. ![]()
