I got my copy yesterday…so my question is which version I should install…is the new exposure feature useful with Vray?

Not even slightly. You’d need to convert all your materials/lighting to mental ray if you wanted to use it.
Design is what you want though, regardless of extra fluff. It’s architecture orientated, and I think there may be some slight UI changes to reflect that.
V-Ray supports the Lighting Analysis Overlay render effect in 3ds Max Design, so this might be useful for you.

looks like vray is good at supporting features that are new in 3dsmax. again i realy think you vray is doing Very well!
2 all : is going max2009 design to support more than 4 gb of ram ?
as far as I understand both max and max design will come in 64bit flavour so yes it then should support 4gb of ram and more. The thing I’m worried about is that if you make the wrong choice between which one to use, will it come back to haunt you later should Autodesk decide to drop features to “simplify” it for a specific industry or add features in the other to make a certain task easier?
same question here. will i be downgraded by autodesk in the future if i install design yet?
The only feature in the non-design version you dont get is the ability to program your own plugins/tools. Thats it, so for normal use you wont see the difference. Considering it’s autodesk, theyve done a pretty good job of not screwing everyone over on that one.
Then again, considering it’s Autodesk, I wouldn’t put it over on them Not to screw everyone over.
We have the same concern over here DVP3D. If I go with design am I stuck in the wrong group? Later on will these two start going in further directions. I don’t want to regret missing out on some good tools.
I would go design unless you program plug-ins. Even if you did you can install either flavor.

you can install either flavour with 2009 yes. But maybe with the next version you might not be able to and will have to decide now which one you want.

ok so its been almost a month. Who opted for max and who opted for max design? Any archviz people opted not to use max design?

i am fresh owner of max design 2009, but too soon to make any conclusions for me 
I do mainly arhviz, but trying to get into other areas also. So I decided to go for Plain Max 2009. Hugely disappointed with the tutorials that comes with it. Same old crap as before. I mean come on! the bugs running around in the fridge has been around since max 3!
Can’t these guys give us some more interesting stuff, and some “showreel” from other companies that use it. How we suppose to stay inspired?
