Hi,

We were experiencing strange bugs last week.
Max was crashing on file opening, the explorer crashed on a mouse roll over a max file, etc…

In fact, Discreet do not support Win2k SP3/SP4 and advice to downgrade to Service Pack 2 (funny).

You won’t be able to open a .max saved with a SP4 if you’ve got an older SP. You may open then save it with an WinXP. It’s a workinh workaround.

Be aware. Go to the Discreet support forums for more info.

A general solution may be to upgrade every computer to SP4 or downgrade to SP3/SP2 (even if it’s supported or not, SP3 is working here)

Another Fix for Win2000 is in your 3dsmax.ini file enter the following line-

SaveFileProperties=0

I put mine under

it will fix the issue of explorer crashing when selecting large max files. Aparently Win2000 doesn’t like the extra garbage that max puts into the files. But you will have to open the files and resave them to have the SaveFileProperties=0 affect it.
