It looks like the folks at Autodesk are finally get a clue that they should develop a product for the 21st century. With these new features I just might start modeling in AutoCad again.

I am so affraid of getting client’s “3d models”… their plans are bad enough…
OMG-looks amazing. My only fears is first release bugs and slow performance. Can’t wait to check it out.

I liked that program the first time I saw it… when it was called rhino. Seriously though the grip edit feature would be soooo nice.

judging by their meaning of the word ‘realistic’ (table half way down) I dont think we’ll be out of a job just yet.
somehow i doubt the architects are even going to do too much 3d. their job is enough trouble as is and yea i agree id hate to see how much worst the files they send to us will be

Architects not using 3D are missing a huge trick… it saves us time, reduces error and gives us way more info than we ever had before… evolution with take care of 2D hehehe

I do think that’s going to be true in about 10 years, when all the boomers architects will be retired, cause for know, most of them owns the business and they (most of them) like the classic approch, and do not want to waist time on computer stuff, there why the tecknical people.. so whatever tool gets out there, it all starts on napkins with a few buddies aroud a beer

Can you imagine how SLOW it would be too work with those files, let alone how messy they’re going to be. How many times is Autodesk going to come out with a new ‘3D’ break through package? Let’s see there was Arch Desktop (what a joke), Revit (supposedly the new Freedom Tower in NY was designed with this, my previous employer is being slowed done by this program and the’re only building 17-story hotel towers), not to mention all the options before that (which I don’t remember, as I can’t stand ACAD). What’s going to happen to the Revit Editions? 2-3 year lifespan of products?
This makes me fear the Max/Maya product due out… :roll:
Hey CXStudios - what have you heard about MAX/MAYA? - are they going to merge the two packages?
here its decided ( by law ) that all goverment development projects from the year 2007 has to be communicated in 3D ie between architechts, engeniers and developer.

as far as i know they stated they were keeping max and maya seperate for now
As for ‘futuristic’ 3d-software for building design and construction, Bentley seems to have something going with their “Generative components”
http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Markets/Building/GenerativeComponents.htm, a supposedly “parametric and associative” design system that will include FEM analysises, project managment etc. If I have understood their concept correctly, it’s almost like inverse kinematics in the whole model of a structure, so that if you, say, increase the floor heights, alle the stairs will adjust automatically, or if you change the material of the floor-slabs, the thickness of the beams will adjust to bear it, and so on. Imagine 50 architects working on the same project with this system… :shock:
