we have some random crashes here after a rendering is done (rendering image 100%) or aborted. CPU usage is at 0% and Maya is not responding anymore. It’s hard to tell what exactly is crashing maya but I attached a simple scene that crashes fairly often.
1. Open the scene in maya
2. Open the render view
3. Right click on ‘Redo previous render’ and choose perspective camera
You can hit ESC after the framebuffer opened and the rendering started. If that doesn’t crash maya, close the framebuffer and start again at point 2. with opening the render view. Sometimes it crashes after a few tries and sometimes it doesn’t crash at all. It appears pretty random to me but hopefully you can reproduce the issue.
Thanks,
jan
Edit:
We’re using Maya 2012
Build 18822 from Jan 23 2012
Windows 7 Pro x64 vray_crashtest.zip (7.57 KB)
I tested the nightly build 19056 from today but it doesn’t fix it.
However it hasn’t crashed here since I use the ‘Render current frame’ button directly from Maya’s status line without opening the render view. But maybe it was just luck.
does your maya run fine otherwise? with mental ray/software, or just working in maya?
Not so long ago I had an issue where my maya was crashing very randomly, and very often. It was the fault of maya’s auto-save believe it or not. After I disabled it, everything went fine.
We have the same problem where Maya doesn’t wake up after the render is done.. It only seems to happen when you use Maya’s own renderView to select which camera to render from.
A workaround which seems to work for us most of the time, is to drag a small region in Maya’s renderView, just to make the VRay framebuffer render from the currect camera. After that we can render the full image without problem in the framebuffer.
Would it be possible to select which camera to render from inside VRay’s framebuffer, so you wouldn’t have to use Maya renderView at all?
