Maya Vray Dirt (AOC) not working in GPU

Is this a known bug?

I cannot make the extraTex vray dirt produce ambient occlusion when rendering in GPU. Exact same render element produces the effect perfectly in CPU. See below.

Maya 2024, V-Ray 6 for Maya, update 1 (v6.10.00 from May 15 2023), Windows 11

CPU

GPU

Am I missing something?

Turn off the “As Inclusive Set” checkbox under the “Affected By” parameter. Not sure why this is happening though, I have to ask around.

Ahh, that did fix it. Thank you!

Can this get fixed in the next update please. I just spent like 2 hours trying to figure out why this wasn’t working on GPU before finding this thread. Simple bug but pretty confusing as a user.

I’ll notify the project manager to prioritize the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VGPU-5718 ).

How do you control the noise on AO using the GPU, it seems the subdivs are not doing anything at all. in CPU it works as it should.

Thanks for the report. I’ve logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VGPU-6278 ) for developer investigation.

Hi @hsz

We are looking into your request now, could you please share a scene where you get a noisy AO pass?
Exposing the Subdivs is not going to work for V-Ray GPU for technical reasons, but we could look at improving the noisy results in your case

Hi @Muhammed_Hamed I Just downloaded the latest version of Vray nightlies and I tested on a very simple scene and it seems that now this working better… I might have to do more testing.

It has not been fixed as of 2025 V-Ray 7.00.02.:rage:

Also, please add VRayAO elements to Maya as well as 3dsMax. (Is this also an idea portal?)

I’ll ping the product owner about the issue again.

This is already logged (internal tracker id: VMAYA-9863). I’ll add a bump on your behalf.

There is a fix that was pushed to V-Ray for C4D, but didn’t make it to Maya or 3Ds Max. I’m looking into this now
Thanks @flat for bringing this up again

Best,
Muhammed

Any news regarding adding this fix to Maya? Not beeing able to reduce the noise in AO is stopping us from using VRay Dirt in our GPU rendering pipeline.
