Mirror's Edge - New gaming engine???

yep, looks great. I think this is causing quite a bit of buzz in the industry…

man, that looks great:

i want my renders to look like that.
anyone knows how it works, without manual photoshopping?
it looks like overlayed/smeared brush filter, but not as cheesy as this usually turns out.

That’s concept art, not a rendering heh concepts and ingame are mixed on that page:

concept:

ingame:

ahh, ok…

boring then…

Looks pretty special.

I’m not too sure which part is concept renderings versus in-game renderings. Some of the in-game shots look pretty cool (where you see the person’s arms, etc.)

Some of the other shots look full on raytraced and has me wondering. They’ve gone crazy with their reflections which always looks brilliant in a game.

i wonder when we can use those engines for VR purposes? would be cool hehe

Kids today have it too good, I remember playing this while I was growing up with Atari:

Combat baby!!!

I get asked this all the time. Is there somethng out there for free that I can take my 3d model and import it, so I can walk around it in a game like setting. Just walk…and see materials and etc.

erm…well ppl are doing that actually :

Buy the game and you get the editor etc for free

but is it free for commercial use?
We’ve been looking into this and looked at unreal3 but they won’t say how much the engine is for commerical use - but it’s rummored to be an absolute fortune, £700,000+

Well there’s a difference in licensing the engine for redistribution in games or apps and using it to present i would guess…but i dont know

There are so many ways to do it it’s not even funny, and then you need to take into account if youre keeping it internal or sending it as a full package, and power available.

Theres also no quick way of doing it, although its not too hard, you do need to put a bit of time into it.

Eh. I wouldn’t say ‘people.’ Well, a few people are. It seems most people try for a little bit then give up.

Plenty of people are, they just dont put it on the internet. Its harder to show and talk about a real time presentation you sorted out from a botched together map in crysis than it is to put up a still image.

Ive done 2 large scale ones, but they were messy, long winded and mostly done without a real understanding of what was happening - which you need if you are to tell someone else how to do it/talk about it without looking like an idiot. ‘just dick about for a bit’ doesnt make a very good guide.
