What is MLT
its “Metropolislight transport” Well we want to beat Maxwell ?
this might be a solution.
But Vlado should know it best.
Very interisting dont you all think so ?

If you can find the original discussion of Maxwell… I believe Vlado posted this same link way back then ![]()

MLT is an interesting algorithm from a theoretical point of view, but it has its limitations. Yes, it can handle some difficult lighting situations more efficiently than other exact algorithms, but it doesn’t give any advantage in more common scenes (for example, a skylit exterior). In fact, for such scenes, MLT may perform even worse than simple QMC path tracing in terms of noise, because it is a lot more “random”. Being an exact algorithm, it also has the limitations of those algorithms, e.g. working with perfectly specular or close to perfectly specular surfaces like glass and mirrors…
Best regards,
Vlado
