I need another Vray 3 license for the next few weeks and as I have done before, went to the shop page to order it.
However, there is no longer an option for renting a Vray 3 license, instead I can rent a Vray NEXT license. The question is, is this license backwards compatible? Will it give me another Vray 3 (or 2.5!) license or is it only for Vray NEXT?

Yes, the V-Ray Next license is backward compatible and you will be able to run V-Ray 3.x with it. You will need to update the license server to the latest version though.

I assume that goes for Vray 2.5 as well (it did before Next was released)?

With V-Ray Next license you can still use V-Ray 2.5 builds that use V-Ray 3 licenses (V-Ray 2.50.L30)
