when i saw Vlado’s SSS dragon in the vray for maya thread, i remembered i had it as a vrmesh somewhere, and wanted to give it a go myself.
Here’s the 45minutes render (sun+sky+physcam), plus a quick dab of paint to contrast the head a little bit.
Nothing exciting, but i do like the detailed way the orange sss shows through…

Great, it seems that the first paint layer is used and you can see the orange through, first layer solid and second translucent.

what exactly does it look like its made of? 
i think it’s somekind of rare gem from deep mongolia, somekind of brown jade. hehehehe…i saw newspaper just this morning, similar look, cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for making 5 pieces of replica eggs, for this one, a dragon, it looks like it has 350mm long, and in 1 piece, i’d say it will cost around 2 million dollars. ehehheheh
Funnily enough it looks alot like the water dragon type thing at in the 2nd last test of 3dmark06 :lol:

I wouldn’t really know what’s made of.
I don’t know of any material perfectly opaque and with a bronze-like finish, which also has orange SSS :shock:

One thing i did on purpose was to enhance the DoF intensity a bit so to have it look small, around 350mm long…
