Most efficient material type for this...

As title - appreciate it seems like a really simple question - but what is the best / most efficient way to create a see through material as per the white large panels?

If I use a Vray material with IOR at 1.5 - it’s kind of glass like - not really white, A normal white material with the opacity at around 20% is much faster - but there must be a better way to create this look in Vray?

I think the VRay2SidedMtl - Chaos Docs

Thanks for the reply - I have tried the 2 sided Mat - but it also looks quite dull and lifeless - i’m trying to re-create the effect of sails on an exhibition stand with lights behind - so ideally I want to see through them and also get a nice effect with the lights / Vray light materials behind - kind of SSS like I guess!

That’s essentially what the 2 sided material is, a single plane with SSS properties so that it can have a different material on each side. Like a leaf.

Sails, I assume it is a fabric then. If it is transparent it is most probably not SSS, more lightly it is diffraction you are seeing through it.
Could probably be achieved with a mix of 2 sided and a very fine mesh texture in your opacity channel.
I will try do an example of what I mean when I get home.

Thanks for the info / ideas chaps - I pursued the 2 sided material and finally got it looking good with a texture subtle driving a falloff / transparency and some illumination from behind.
I will post a picture when i’m finished - but for now the sails are looking good
