Mouse Recommendations?

Hi All

I need a new mouse. Currently at 1 office I have a very cheap entry level Logitech Wired mouse. It’s a bit light and small even though it’s not the mini version, my hands cramps up after 1 or 2 hours.
At the other office I have a Wired Microsoft mouse also entry level, but it’s a bit bigger and slighlty heavier than the Logitech so I can work much longer with it.

I would like to replace the Logitech (buttons get stuck sometimes), with something newer, bigger and heavier and wired. I looked at the Cyborg Rat, it feels comfortable and nicely heavy, but man it’s ugly.

Also I don’t want something with 50 buttons on the side and 10 scroll wheels and that makes coffee. Normal left and right buttons with centre scroll wheel is fine. But it needs to be big and heavy.

Recommendations?

I love the old style microsoft mouse, they fit perfectly into your hand and dont have that overkill of buttons. Also the middle wheel works as it should (middle click), we had those fancy mice at work some new logitec $100 ones and middle wheel would release all the time in the middle of drag and drop, soo annoying. Too bad microsoft does not make them anymore.

After trying about 10 different Logitech mice and realizing that they are all crap, I settled with a Razor DeathAdder mouse and am quite happy with it.

I’m using Logitech MX510 for ten years now and I’m very satisfied. But it’s too old model.

Bigger the better, IMO. My favorite mouse ever was a Rocketfish, but they don’t make that model anymore. :frowning: But of course you will have no wrist problems at all if you just switch to doing as much as you can with a pen tablet.

Microsoft intellimouse Explorer v3 - 5 buttons - left side button set to show desktop - really useful - (rt side button not set to do anything)
it’s fairly big and you can still find new ones on ebay
to reduce hand stress you want a light mouse as it means less hand acceleration - I agree it’s a trade off

I’m super picky about my mouse. Like plastic_, I love the Death Adder by Razer. I started doing some contract work on site with a client. Their computer was set up with a Logitech M-U0007. It was a pretty good mouse, but I ordered mysel another Death Adder within a couple days.

If I told you what mouse I use I’d probably get laughed at, and mocked

an old Genius Mouse - the 3 button version before there were scroll wheels? The 1st boxy version hehe? It was my 1st mouse serial port and all, and I loved it untill the day it died

How about this? haha

Razer DeathAdder here too.

Razor deathadder here

ergo verti mouse if you fancy in keeping you hand in tune

Looking at an image of that confused me for a minute. Very Escheresque

i just got myself a rokkat KOVA. so far its excellent. very nice feel, super precise ( its a laser jobby) not too many extra buttons but a couple of configurable ones with macros. understated looks unless you turn on the multicoloured led underlighting.

Razer Mamba here with a Vespula mat! Its the best combo I’ve used.

If anyone gets the chance to try an evoluent mouse…do it…you will NEVER get pain in your wrist/arm/neck again as it was desgined to prevent that.
Quote from their site---The Evoluent VerticalMouse 2 (an earlier model identical in concept) was evaluated in 2007 by a team at the health services clinic in UC Berkeley, including medical doctors, physical therapists, ergonomists, and administrators. It was found to be comfortable, easily adapted to, and promote a neutral wrist and forearm posture.

And if you’re serious about your setup than you need to take a long hard look at your keyboard which is probably an older design than your mouse.
Evoluent makes a keyboard with the numbers on the LHS of the keyboard…considering we have a mouse in our right hand it just makes so much sense to have numbers on the LHS of the keyboard

I have been using the Evoluent mouse & keyboard for the last 2 years now and I DO NOT get ANY pain or soreness even after using them for 16hrs a day.

To be fair their were some bad drivers in the early versions but that has been fixed ages ago so it all good

Hope this helps

You dont need a special mouse or keyboard. What you need is to get away from your computer after 8-10 hours…

No offence but I am not sure that’s good advice for anyone by saying have a break after 8-10 hours. You would need to have a break every hour for 5 mins of stretching to aleviate any pain when using a standard mouse.

Even 8-10 hours with a standard mouse & keyboard is going to make you sore…and what happens when you have to do a 12 or 16 hour day???

Most standard mouse designs are very bad for your wrist/arm/neck and I have been to the chiropractor enough times to know that.
To prove a point my little finger on my mouse hand had has actually changed shape/angle due to too many years using a standard mouse. My chiropractor has also informed me It will NEVER recover fully. and he is right as even after 2 years of using a erganomic design mouse my little finger is still F%$#ed.
Also I haven’t been to the Chiropractor once in 2 years since using the Evoluent mouse & keyboard setup…I used to go every 2 months when using a standard mouse.

one more point is that the Evoluent keyboard is much faster to use as it has the numbers [as well as extra enter & delete keys] on the left…no more moving the left arm all the way to the RHS of the keyboard which is slowing down production.

Hope this helps

Of course I was kidding here (as per the winking smilie), and I surely didnt mean to go 8 hours straight without taking breaks. It’s just that I find there wouldnt be much life left to enjoy if I had to spend 16 of the 24 hours that make a day, working… I sincerely hope this is not your weekly routine:wink:
