Winter wonderland

*edit* didn’t reailse it was so Big, here’s a small one

Hi, Jay!
Very interesting composition. The only thing is that the light is not matching the environment. I mean, you’d expect to see some more blue light coming from the sky/surroundings, and it seems a bit off.
Just my 2 cents.

I simply get this:

The list is pretty funny

try this link if you can’t see the image http://earth.prohosting.com/r2j2/hotham.html

that list is funny, Austalia is about the only one not on it

And of course, America isn’t either.

gah, the double standards of the world.

you used max mats on that didnt you?

yeah Psy, they are mostly standard Mat’ls.
The Glass, Weatherboards (displaced) & rendered masonary, the orange stuff, are VRay with Blur’s highlight only.

Actually, the only standard ones are the Snow, rock, wood pillars & cars.

i dunno, i like the image, it just seems like it was rendered in scanline instead of vray, which led to the materials question because you said that you used vray.

theres just something odd about your lighting, mind you, its a good render and i like, but theres something lacking. :?

looking good… R2J2

I must agree with Psy, there is something missing.
Maybe you should try to give it more of realism by not making it so perfect, what i mean is that you should add or modify elements to give add the building some age…

some suggestions:
- I think you should use Vray materials, you get very different results.
- HDRI from a winter exterior (try this one:
http://www.sachform.de/download.asp
- Tweak lighting, perhaps area shadows would make it more realistic.

of course, those are only suggestions.

cheers!

for instance, the shadows all have the same depth of darkness. there doesnt seem to be any darker shadows, they all have the same shade which rings wrong to me.

thanks guys I’ll have a look into that.
the job was rushed so the lighting wasn’t worked on that much,
Psy at the moment I’m wondering how I could get some differance in the shadows without adding extra lights?

Minimum I haven’t got into lighting outdoor secens yet with HDRI, I’ll check it out now, thanks for the link. the shadows were area but it is hard too see.
