I know there must be a few around, most people I know who do CG are at least dabbling with making music. Hopefully a discussion thread wont be too far off topic…
I’ve only really been doing it for a year - had a copy of ableton that I only used for dj sets, then my mate went away for a few months and left me his Korg MS2000 to look after. By the time he got back, I was hooked.
Only really make techno nowadays (real, not the american) - dark proggy stuff seems to be my natural sound.

Not my best in terms of idea’s, but it’s solid and probably sounds tighter than others (all flash, no substance :lol:)

I’ve been thinking about creating my own stuff just like that, but didn’t know what software to start with as I have no instruments or a mac(for Garage Band). Ableton looks pretty good - could you have done that without the Korg?
I did do that without the korg! Thats just what got me interested (still yet to own one)
Ableton is very good - i’d reccomend it to anyone. You’re going to want samples for drums (enough digging can find you good ones for free, start buying magazines with dvd’s on the cover)

It makes some incredible noises, really good for all kinds of dark/evil sounds. I wouldnt worry about lacking instruments - sampling is acceptable (assuming you dont take it too far) and synth plugins have gone from sounding flat and dead a few years ago to putting up a pretty good fight against high end hardware.
There are lots of places you can get free VST’s from too, you’ll find a lot of hobbyist audio programmers make their own synths so theres plenty around to keep you going well with just a basic package.
I DJ quite a lot but am only just getting into producing using Ableton Live and a trigger finger. It’s really hard to find the time (and patience) but I’ll get there. I am actually the European rep for Toronto based label Reticent Recordings (http://www.reticentrecordings.com) so am around producers all the time.

i had a set of 1210’s for a few years and then the baby’s come along and things got a bit tight … so the decks had to go ..
That was 8 years ago.. 6 months ago i was clearing out the garage and found my old records and desided to re-kindel the passion, so i went out and bought a Numark Total control deck and a numark TTusb deck… now i just annoy everyone in the house with my old skool techno / house mixes ..
But i love creating music and mashing the tunes up .. nothing like it!

Ive been composing music for about 20 years. I have a small studio where I do all my recording and composition. Released an album in NZ about 4 years ago and have about 30-40 songs I need to finish. Hoping to release another album this year. Im well up for doing music for films, shorts, etc.
Im hoping at some point to do a music video. Mixing it with live footage and 3d (using vray, of course). Also need to buy a HD video cam..
I recently bought a VST called vienna strings. Absolutely love the sound they produce. Im trying to mix rock and strings at the moment to create an originalish type of instrumental. I will upload later on after this render has finished It does need to be mixed properly at some stage, but havent had the time lately.
Did some mixing on some belt drives from Tandy ages ago, wasnt bad at it, but prefered using synths and pc’s

Just got round to checking it out - I’m trying to download your track but it’s not really going anywhere, and your site is loading far too slow to play it back (think a tiny stab of sound every 30 seconds)

Think there are some mix issues still, and I want to play around with the structure of the second half a little to gel it together better too. 95% done though - so any comments before the final are welcome.

Never heard of microtonic - cheers for the heads up though, i’ll check it out later tonight.
Most of the synths on it are done with octopus and albino, both by linplug.
Cheers. I really do love film music. Especially thrillers and fantasy type compositions. Im not sure though where I would even send my music for a label to hear my work.
