I’m having problems where the background is leaking into the indirectly lighted areas. Direct light is fine but as soon as the indirect light hits anything it looks as if they are semi-transparent. I’m on a tight deadline and really need to get this figured out. I have posted images in the AutoDesk Vizions newsgroup and will post here if necessary.
Re: Need some help, background is bleeding into my scene.
Rubik,
Is your environment map SCREEN mapped? If so, and if you are using MAX’s environment map for the illumination, then the indirect light for your scene will be using the screen map, which would make things look transparent, as the light hitting it is being projected as a screen.
You can Override Max’s environment map in the VRay Render dialogue with a copy of the background image that is using spherical environment mapping.
i actually havent seen this problem since the old beta days. i guess we all took it for granted since we all knew the effect. Good thing this is brought back up again for the new guys.
just a technical question, since i hear it often in the last time - what is the meaning of the term “Background bleeding”? Does it influence the qulity of AA, of the lighness, of the red color, etc?
he means that the background is kinda showing through his images. Basically the background will map its colors onto your 3d models if you use a screen mapping on your background for GI light
The environment map I’m using is in the standard Viz (I should have said this before but I am using Viz R3i) environment dialog box but it shouldn’t be using it for GI if I have the override checked in render should it? I’ve tried adding the image in the override slot but the Viz background is still being used.
Is there anyway to exclude the background image from the GI? It would solve all of my problems if I could do this but I can’t seem to figure out how.
I’ve done this but it seems to be not overriding the Viz background. Unless I uncheck ‘use map’ in the environment dialog box it will still use it for GI regardless of the render settings.
HELP!
I am having the same problem.
Both Vray overrides on - the “screen” map is mapped to the ground plane to do a fake matte object (because I also can’t get the vray matte to show the shadow in the alpha… but that is another thread).
So that shadow looking stuff is actually the background “bleeding” through the scene. It is not in the max environment either.
Need fix ASAP!!!
thanks,
a
Well now the overrides don’t seem to be working either? I turned off that background from the max envirn and I get black.
Alright. So I figured out it is getting into the GI. So if I run the solution without that material save it - then put screen map material back on - it will render fine. Just takes longer for me… not fun.
