I’m new to this vfr thing and need to make an X-Ray material. I know that it can be done with falloff channels in Max version, but as there is no falloff for vfr . . . how would I make an X-Ray material? I’ve been trying all kinds of combinations of the fresnel with different ior and color swaps in all kinds of different configurations and can’t get it to work. Any suggestions?
Re: Need to Make X-Ray Material
Yea that sounds like something that wouldn’t be possible at the moment. The only thing we do have is the fresnel map, which is notoriously tricky to try and work with for anything other then reflection (blend/color falloffs are quite hard). Do you at least have an example of what you’re trying to create?
Re: Need to Make X-Ray Material
I didn’t say that fresnel wouldn’t work, I just said it would be tricky. That render is pretty darn sweet.
Re: Need to Make X-Ray Material
Nice job Micha. As i read the first post i was thinking “i wonder if fresnel…” then i scroll down a bit and Micha’s all over it. rofl. great stuff. ![]()
Re: Need to Make X-Ray Material
It was an interesting test for me too. ![]()
Re: Need to Make X-Ray Material
Thanks Micha . . . that helped a lot. I’m not using it on curved surfaces, so little of the effect is lost, but the overall sense of opacity and the more opaque overlap areas got a lot nicer.
