This is new church i am working on using LWF. C&C welcome
Cecil
hmm there is something weird about the sun and skylight. But i cant put my finger on it. Maybe they need to be stronger.. more yellow for the sun perhaps. hmmm
Good start so far tho.
Looks good, but mabey just a little to blue.
i think it’s a little bit washed out by the “grey”…
so not really enough contrast there. maybe you want to play with the
first bounce and secondary? make the first bounce higher,
and the secondary lower?
The shadow of the fense is very long. Maybe you should move your sun a bit higher.
The shadows also seem to point into different directions. What kind of light did you use for the sun?
That street looks WAY too clean! dirt…dirt…dirt!
nice render
the shadow for the tree looks incorrect though and the shadows for the people look too dark compared to the rest…
yes, the shadows are too crisp and distracting, maybe put some area on the sun and have the 2d people cast real shadows in max.
Maybe I’m just old school, but the contrast is way too low because of the LWF. I’ve been having this same problem myself with exteriors. I keep switching back to older methods with color mapping for better results.
THanks for the comments guys, Lack of contrast is the problem i am having with LWF. Any one have any ideas? I will continue to exprement and post the results.

same here, been trying to grasp the LWF bastard, but i too, am suffering from lack of contrast - mostly doing exteriors though, and i might recall reading something about LWF being more suited for interiors?
nice image though, but you definately need some noise and area shadows, hmm, anyone know if that is possible with vRaySun?
LWF works just fine for interiors and exteriors, i ever posted an animtion on an exterior using LWF and vray sun/sky just to prove it ( i used to believe that it was crap for exteriors as well)
The lack of contrast is either caused by too much light in your scene or textures that have not been corrected properly. Try either lowering your lights multiplyer or applying colorcorrect to your maps and settings the gamma to 2.2 (in color correct)
daforce,
what is your input gamma ?
if let’s say it’s 2.2, will you still be using colorcorrect to
raise the gamma til 2.2 as well?
My last LWF render (that animation) I didnt need to use colorcorrect just input gamma was enough. And when I put color correct on the materials it was way too dark.
Color correct may be needed but it depends on how you setup LWF.
i don t use colorcorrect…just the gama override in the max loading bitmap rollout…and i don t even need to correct any input that often…
Yeah, I have LWF all figured out ( I think) and I’ve gotten good results on interiors, but exteriors are a problem. I had a vray sphere light for sun, set at 0.3 (no decay of course) with a vray dome light for environment set at 0.2 and things were about the right brightness, but the contrast was still too low. No maps, just a light grey override material. And IR (high)/QMC (3 bounces).
Maybe it only works Vray Sun/Sky? I may be the last on this forum with only 1.47.03, so I can’t use it.
I could contrast adjust it in photoshop, but that defeats the purpose of gamma correction to begin with…
/start grumble
don’t worry - you’re not the only one.
spare a thought for us poor viz users who still have to use 1.46.03…
/end grumble
there was a scene posted by flipside here http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15253&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50
i m sure it might be of some use
and yeah i too am still on 1.47.03… ![]()
I didn’t see an exterior scene posted by flipside, just those throb renderings. I am familiar with throb’s scene and tutorial, which I think was one of the first. But the lights from his renderings are not the same as in his sample file based on my rendering results vs. his.
If someone has an exterior scene with good lighting results in LWF they should post it.
I could post my less than desirable exterior LWF in a new post, but there are so many LWF threads already…
