Whenever I see RPC people I cringe. I have seen it pulled off well, but I haven’t been able to accomplish it. Other that that subjective perspective it looks good.
Thanks for the feedback. The people in the renderings were actually added in post production (photoshop)(not RPCs). It’s really hard not to make them look so billboardish considering the light and shadow on them can never truly match your sceen.
Dodge/Burn, adjust contrast to match image.
Also, the shadows look solid black, and often at the wrong angle. Try sampling the other shadows in the scene, filling the shadow with this on its only layer, and setting the layer transfer mode to something like color.
Cutouts
Why don’t you just use billboards?
Ya, I was thinking I would give that a shot. I’ll try it on one of the renderings and post the update.
nice images. I dont mind the cutouts too much - i’ve used a lot lower quality ones before!
Maybe just tone down the shadows slightly I think that they are a touch too black compared to the shaded area that people are standing in.
I like the nice simple background/lighting. Keeps it nice and clean

Dirt
One last trick to add that extra bit of life…DIRT!
Run out a set of dirt maps and throw them on top. You will not believe the difference. Also, create a new layer in PS in front of your base image (and dirt I hope) and use the CLOUDS filter (with color set to black and white). Do this primarily for the horizontal surfaces (such as the roads and sidewalks). Once the filter is done it will look crazy…just selectively erase parts of it with a soft eraser and then lower the opacity of the whole layer.
Doing these quick tricks will knock down some of the “perfectness” that comes right of the initial render pass.
