Looks like a good way to go - and cheaper than dual quad xeons.
It’s tentatively priced (on the last page of the article) at $499 for the motherboard, plus probably a little more than $1000 per processor. So you’re starting out at more than $2500.

Oh, must have missed that - thought the motherboard was 1000 ish. And it’s not $1000 per processor. Nothing says you can’t stick 2 Q6600’s in there.
Here’s some more info. It’s probably going to be $1500+ per processor when released(the QX9770, which is the same exact processor but with a LGA-775 pinout, is currently $1600), plus $500 for the motherboard, plus you have to use FB-DIMM RAM… and ohh yeah it’s Socket LGA-771 so it’s not upgradeable to Nehalem (Socket LGA-1366) and you can’t use any Core2 chips in it as they’re Socket LGA-775 (such as the Q6600).
Well that sucks - not quite the budget system I thought it would be. I remember when you could stick 2 P3’s in a reasonably priced motherboard with normal, non-ECC ram… good times.
