That looks alright to me, the only thing I would change are the Hard drives. I would take the WD Raptor 10K speed server edition - never had any problem with them.
What kind of Raid do you want to use? Mirroring or Striping?
BTW, didn’t mention that I’m seriously considering OC for the first time. Why not live dangerously, eh? So… if any of that is not OC-friendly, lemme know!

Looks like the Raptors would bump the system $200 more, with half the space. I’ve heard good things about them, but I’m using those Barracudas in my current machine with no complaints.
I’m mirroring (RAID 1) on this machine - figured on doing the same on these.
you know… I understand that everyone swears by the 8800gtx but my experience has been pretty average with it. I have another workstation with an old quadro that performs well in max but just about owns the gtx in every other application. For example, an animation in AE that can playback in realtime on the quadro will crawl on the gtx… I am no hardware guru so I may be missing some tweaks but thats my observation.
If you want a more quite system, then i want to suggest you a seasonic s12 500w psu and samsung t166 hdd.
Your case have one 8cm fan in the front, so the fan have to run faster and louder then a case with a 12cm fan in front.
Seasonic s12II 500w: stable, not very loud and 80plus(..we should start thinking about nature)
Samsung t166: cool (~28-30°C) and really really quite!
8gb Corsair is risky when you want to oc even only a little bit, because not all 2 stick sets can run flawless together… if possible go for a set with 4sticks!
Anyway .. your system sounds nice, but i personally think that you can’t go wrong with a q6600 ..with any mobo /gfx / ram combo. ..it’s pure power!
I have the same P5K and it does run pretty hot 41 degrees at idle no O/C. If have been thinking of at least adding a fan to the NB heatsink. How did you beef up the heatsinks? Got a picture?
Could fit 6 onto the various flat parts of the nb heatsink… thus expanding its area a fair bit…
then I modded the case with a hole saw, and put a fan on the side (120mm) that drew cold air directly into the NB heatsink/ ram area. So cold air comes directly onto there, and then out the back / out the psu.
the video and cpu are water cooled so ambient temps inside are low anyway.
this modification was needed to get the extra NB voltage without crashes for 3.6ghz, otherwise i was stuck at 3.4. I still have 5c of temp headroom, but summer isnt far off so… ill stick with what i’ve got
for anyone else looking at p35 motherboards and wishing to overclock, keep in mind the p35 chip does get very hot and some motherboards have better heatsink / heatpipe arrangements than others, i know there is a cheaper version of the p5k motherboard… which might be the ‘e’ mentioned earlier (though i thought it was SE) that has a much weaker heatsink that would no doubt limit its ability.
