i’m making a building exterior façade with an aluminium or steel curved element (don’t know yet) but can’t get any decent highlights on the material. is there any way to get such highlights in exterior views APART from this procedures:
- cheating by unchecking trace reflections
- highlight only plugin (no version available for max 6, too slow on max 5)
- placing omnis or vraylights here and there (no correct lighting model)
any of this processes are painful and or yield bad results. would be a good thing to get those highlights work with vraymat (would’nt it??), but i guess it all comes down to the presence of a new shader for metals
Anyway, I know it’s a subject that has been around for a while, but I thought it would be great if everyone posted their own findings so that we could all get a better solution for a weak point from an otherwise oustanding program.
tried adding a standard max light set to affect specular only? if your really picky, making a shadow matte will allow you to mask off any speculars appearing in shadow areas:)
you can use a shellac mat with your vraymat in the base and a black standard multilayer mat for the specs in the shellac slot. You"ll have better control over your highlights by placing additional pointlights and checking “specular only”, as it will not change your overall diffuse lighting - shellac slows down things though.
