Here is a night time scene. The image turned out really grainy so I put a filter on it. I kind of like the results. Any tips on night time renderings?

Book World
Same project, but a day scene with the same filter.

not sure about the filter.
Is it an evermotion shop???
Filter
I am not aware of Evermotion Shop. What is it? It is done in PhotoShop. You don’t like it? It was all the rave in the office
Filter
Oops… I am sorry. it is using AKVIS Sketch
Not bad, however in the night version the filter is abit to strong for me.
Also your convertable is floating ![]()
I think he means your internals are full of evermotion models!
you got it
Forgot to add, both images look like good pencil sketches, the filter is removing the 3d’ness of it.
For the night shot I would make it much darker, and brighten the internals more and add a soft glow to any light source, including the shop windows. Use google for night photos for reference.
Evermotion
Yes… Evermotion. got to love it! Who has the time to model all that stuff? I have a request in for the Evermotion V-Ray cars… Those look nice.
i personally think this is very ugly.
my clients would punch me in the face until i bleed for using “art” filters.
i would also get rid of the black border around the image.
this effect is commonly used in obituary notices.
i think its called “mourning border”.
I would loose the filter or go all out NPR. Also it’s natural (photographically) to have grain on night shots. If it’s too much you should be able to reduce it with vray or use noise reduction software like Neat Image.
Night
I gave the client all three images. Day without filter, day with filter, and night with filter. The client, who is a major developer, loved the filter on both the day and night. I personally like the day filter, but I am not happy with the night. I’ll try a couple more projects with the filter as an option and see how it is received. I’ll let you guys know the % of the people who like it. I see it being used for the lower budget projects that can’t effort all the extra detail, this being one of them. Actually I think this I a freebee.
Filter
Just to clarify. I was looking for a way to fill a need. People have been asking for a softer hand look and I think this works. I haven’t seen anything better. So I guess if I have to do this for someone I found something that looks okay.
I use sketch/artistic filters quite a bit with my work, they definately have their place. Comments such as tammo’s have to be taken with a grain of salt. We all have different clients with different needs, and as long as the client is satisfied with your work, you should be satisfied as well.
I wanted to bring a little more life back to the image, hope you don’t mind ![]()
Filter
That popped it. Can you tell me what Photoshop tweak you used?
Aha! What is throwing the night shot is the sun rays coming down through the clouds. Even if it were a dusk shot the sun would be much much lower in the sky. Or are they moon beams?
Night
The photo actually matched up well with the v-ray sun/sky. If I were to make the sun visible it would be just below what is shown. Having the sun right their is what made me try a night scene. I think is is around 7:00 PM in the summer. I’ll have to double check.
looks not so great to me too. 2007 and the render looks like something done in the early 3d days. gotta love non-picky clients though. ![]()
I pasted the history on the right side of the image. The duplicate layer was a gaussian blur brightened quite a bit and set to soft light blending. Got the balance about where I wanted it, flatened, then did a little more B/C and H/S/L adjustment to move it away from blue/grey. Took maybe 5 minutes ![]()
