No connection to VRAY - internal error occured

Hi guys,

I updated to V-Ray 7.40.01 for Blender 5.2.0 last week, and since then I can’t use V-Ray at all. When I switch the viewport shading to Rendered mode, I get this error message:

and this one of course :

Also, the V-Ray VFB won’t open from the menu — nothing happens when I click it.

This happens with all my projects, and also with a fresh blend file (I use a personal startup file).

NOTE: I thought I could upload my startup file here, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, do you happen to have any crash dumps from this? They are usually saved in %localappdata%\CrashDumps\VRayZmqServer(pid).dmp

Nope, no crash dumps…

I guess I’ll switch back to 7.40.00 untill someone have a clue…

Thanks @bozhidar_ivanov

Now that I read again your initial post, does it crash with a default Blender scene? Or only with your personal startup file and existing scenes? If it crashes only with your scenes, you should be able to upload .blend files here I think(unless something changed), if not you can also open a ticket here https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us

I probably didn’t explain it clearly. The problem occurs on both existing projects and when opening a “new file”.
However, Blender doesn’t crash — I can keep working on the file, but I can’t open the VFB, nor use “viewport shading: rendered”.

Yeah, that means something in V-Ray itself crashes during rendering/initialization. That’s why I asked if it’s scene specific.

I have (or have had) similar issues where the VFB won’t open when I first start after opening Blender, whenever it’s a new scene or an existing scene.

I found out that if I launch a final render and then try to open the VFB it works. Maybe a hint…
