No Response from Render Button

I have modeled a fairly simple (all orthogonal geometry) model and when I go to render by hitting the blue cube button I get no response except for the “…currently processing scene…” message at the bottom, which procedes to disappear after I move the mouse or hit a key. I have tried waiting but it still fails to render my scene. I have also exploded all my geometry and the problem was still there.

Please HELP!

Re: No Response from Render Button

i had this exact same thing happen to me, and i tried to explain to them (support) but they told me vray was “thinking” but it clearly wasnt! it just gave up, and ignored the command, but i havnt had this problem with the latest build. what build are u using?

Re: No Response from Render Button

Even with SR1 I have experienced this. My guess is that something gets messed up in SU or VR, because I just saved the model, exited SU, then re-launched the whole lot and it renders ok. Its difficult to say what’s caused it - and even more difficult to re-create it. I put it down to being ‘just one of those things’!

i knew i wasnt doing anything wrong! thanks

Re: No Response from Render Button

I’ve noticed this as well. But have not been able to reproduce it reliably.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Its just a bug caused by SU-Vray, normally after doing a lot of renders in a short time or hammering the render button. Just save your model and restart SU to fix.

Re: No Response from Render Button

I have this problem as well…glad I’m not the only one. I have had mixed luck by going into the primary engine and hitting reset. Sometimes it works…other times it doesn’t. Who knows. Most often a save and reopen will fix it.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Yea, we’ve seen it here, but haven’t been able to nail it down to a reproducible series of actions. Without some specific steps finding whats actually causing the issue can be hard. If you have any idea what some of those steps might be, we’d like to hear them.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Well I am having this same issue, only saving and re-opening the file is not working. This is what I’ve posted on the Sketchucation forum earlier this morning. From the sounds of it though, no one can help me. Ugh.

I am having problems rendering an interior scene. The problem I’m having is that after I hit the render button, V-Ray processes the scene for about 5 minutes, then cancels the render. There is no error message, it just stops processing the scene. I tried rendering smaller scenes on the same machine with the same session of S.U. & V-Ray open and it works fine. This leads me to believe that it is a problem with this particular file. Other things I have tried is to turn off all of the furniture, make the entire model a component (cutting it’s size by 70%), try numerous vispot files, but nothing has worked so far. Is it possible that the file is corrupted?

The model I’m working with is 30.9 MB, and has lots of furniture & lighting components which I fear may be too complex for my machine to handle when rendering. The machine I’m running it on has an Intel duo core 2.83 Ghz processor and 3.5 GB of RAM, so I can’t believe that I’m overloading the machine, but my experience with V-Ray is limited. Thanks for any help or advice.

Re: No Response from Render Button

What V-Ray for Sketchup version do you have?

Re: No Response from Render Button

I have Sketchup Pro 6.4 and V-Ray 1.00.74

Re: No Response from Render Button

That’s the SR1.0. Follow the link in my signature for SR1.5

Re: No Response from Render Button

The new version won’t solve this issue.

I’ve seen this here (getting locked out of render), but there’s nothing that we’ve been able to directly attribute as the cause, or find an accessible solution for. The one file that I have that’s exhibiting this behavior doesn’t have any maps or any components or anything.

My only suggestion would be to copy and paste the model from your current model to a new model. You can then export the visopts and import them into the new file. That’s really the best I can offer on this one, but there’s something behind the scenes that is preventing the file from rendering again.

Re: No Response from Render Button

no thomthom was correct. I downloaded the new version and it works perfectly now. Thanks for the help.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Well, I’m certainly not actually solved. Upgrading might have fixed your issue (I’m glad it did), but I still have files that have either gotten locked out by or are still locked out with the new version. Just be aware that it might still happen. If for some reason it does, and you think it can be equated to certain series of steps, please let us know.

Re: No Response from Render Button

This has happened to me, and I find the issue to be with groups. I’ve found that if I have several groups then I group them all into 1 big group the render button wont do anything, until I explode the one big group. Usually works for me.

just a thought…

Re: No Response from Render Button

Hmm…okay I’ll take a look. Thats kinda odd just because one of the files I have doesn’t have any groups in it, but I’ll see if that can help get to what’s actually causing the issue.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Isn’t this the same issue talked about in the ‘long parsing time’ thread?
@Sheldon: when you really wait long, doesn’t it start to render ?

Re: No Response from Render Button

It might be, but since there are 5 different accounts of what’s going on its hard to tell specifically. What I’m referencing in my posts a least is that V-Ray will for some reason be locked out of rendering (ie won’t even start the render process) and it will be as if you never pressed render at all.

Re: No Response from Render Button

Hello guys.
I have been able to reproduce this quite often when importing SOME objects/scenes straight from the google 3d warehouse.
When I import it directly into the scene the render button stops working no matter what I do.. even saving and reopening won’t cut it. But if I open the scene in another file and just copy/paste the component or abject I want the scene renders correctly.
