i’m rendering a interior scene, and i cannot get rid of the noise. specialy on the walls.
As you can see the walls are not smooth.
I’m using QMC sampler, and have tried the following:
- Universal settings from vlado
- QMC 3/6 noise 0.001 (still noise)
using adaptive subdivs the noise is less but render time is increased.
What i would like to know is how to reduce that noise using the QMC sampler, and rQMC.
Although i have tried the 1/100 and 3/6 and tried different threshold such as 0.001 or 0.005 the noise is not getting less…
hope to post a better images soon, so you can see better
the materials is just standard white vray. nothing special there
light are all vray lights yes, but if i increase the subdivs there i gues it will affect rendertimes very much… ?? maybe anyone has experience in this?
can you tell more…what GI solutions are you using, adaptive amount, have you disabled the Use QMC Sampler option in image sampling etc. Remember adaptive amount ties heavily to a lot of different things. If you’re using an adaptive amount of 1.0 try dropping to 0.9. Have you checked that you dont have anything going on in the bump channel or with glossy reflections
I think you shouldn’t never raise qmc min.
And I still don’t understand why people are so
afraid to increase max alot.
I’m asking because I’m new with V-Ray and I really don’t know.
Usyally we are rendering our animations with
qmc 1/100 noise 0.008 and it just works every time.
Lars,
He said he did try 1/100. I don’t think that this is a good universal setting, especially for new users because it can get you in trouble with rendering times. I also suggest raising the Min before going crazy with the Max. If you want to know how and why, you can read this post. http://chaosgroup.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18975
According to the doc over at cg-architects about the QMCsampler, the 1/100 option is not always better and faster. the 3/6 works also good in some situations.
i have tried the 1/100 and 0,005> no change in noise.
Also there are no area shadows in the scene.
3/6 with 0.001 is not a good idea. Better do something like 8/64 with 0.005
or setting too low maximum qmc samples will limit vray to perform highersampling and thus produce noise.
P.S. make sure there is no noise causing sources such as:
area lights too close to objects, hdri’s emitting qmc gi. Reflective caustics.
Another way you can trouble shoot your scene is by taking steps back. For example, you need to determine what is causing noise. To do that make a vray material override for the entire scene, and render it out with and without gi, see if the noise is still present. If no then it could be reflections, if yes, then it could be gi, or direct lights, and work your way from there on.
just asked Brian smith from 3dAS off forum and I wanted to post his respons becuase it worked very nicely. below are the contents of our skpe chat:
disable the (use qmc sampler thresh in adaptive rqmc sampler) it…then use the Clr thresh value to control the noise of image sampling without having to use the Noise thresh value in the QMC Sampler rollout (which affects many other settings)…leave that value at 0.01 and set the Clr thresh value to 0.003…if this solves the problem then back off such high quality and see how poorly you can make the settings without the noise returning…if you can remove noise with an image sampling of Min=2 and Max =5 and Clr thresh at 0.005 then use those values
set it to 0.003 (a fairly high quality value) and along with a min/max of 3/6, that should remove the noise…but if you can reduce the rendertimes with 2/5 and 0.005 or something in that range without bringing the noise back, then do it
