Objects not casting the correct shadows

Sometimes my objects seems to float even though they are sitting on top of a surface. Is there a way to fix this?

  • I have the latest version.

  • I use studio lights for my interiors lighting.

  • im using a HDR.

  • it only happens on some objects, not all.

Thank you!

Maybe it’s caused by to much soft shadows by lights like at the example here. In my test it is caused by a small scale of my object, it was only a few centimeters and Enscape seems to be best work for architecture scene scales only. In your case it shouldn’t be a problem. You could check the size of your objects - are they like at the real world.

i see what you are saying. so i went back and put the same objects the SAME scale as my scene…seemed to help a little. but still looks like its floating a bit..?

Could you disable the reflections of the desk? So, we could see the pure shadow effect, maybe it’s caused by the very soft reflections.

there’s no reflection on the counter - some items sit nicely on the counter, its its a complete surface i.e plates. other then that everything seems to float.

ive started noticing the problem a lot more now…

i dont think it has anything to do with my graphics - i have the latest geforce updated on my gaming laptop (brand new laptop also)

i think its a bug maybe?

Thanks for your reports. Occasional light leaking in shadows of artificial lights is unfortunately a known issue. We hope to improve that behaviour in future versions. One workaround is currently to reduce the light’s intensity, as it improves shadow precision.
